When you’re trimming a video, leave yourself a little space. If you come back and do automated highlights, the system will try to match the beat of the music to the clip to the video. This could take a fraction of a second off the beginning or the end. If you’re just downloading one clip at a time, then it’s fine to trim it wherever you want. But if you’re going to build automated highlight video reels, leave yourself a little extra room in case it tries to match them up to the beat and needs a split second at the front or the back.
To trim on any game:
- Click into the game.
- Click into the clip. Underneath the video, look for a little pair of scissors.
- You can also get to this directly from the favorites. Click the scissors.
- First, try and find where you want to clip. Watch the seconds. For example, if there was a good move at about second five, you might want that in the clip. And if there was a shot at second 15, you might want to clip this from second four to second 15.
- Slide your handle over to the start point (e.g., second four).
- At the end, slide the handle to the end point (e.g., second 15).
- Hit the trim button. You’ll be put in the queue to trim.
It should take around 10 seconds to trim, unless there’s a lot of trimming happening at the same time.
One thing to keep in mind is that the internet caches a lot of content, especially video. You may find that it doesn’t seem like it’s trimmed, but it actually is—it’s just cached either in your browser or online. Sometimes it’s hard to get that cache cleared out. Try refreshing the screen to see if the trimmed version shows up. For example, if the video went from 20 seconds to 11 seconds, the trimming worked.
If it’s not changing or cropping, it might be due to the cache. In Chrome, look at the beginning of the URL for a little icon with a couple of lines. Mouse over it to view site information. Click on it to access cookies and site data. You can clear those out by clicking on the trash can icon to delete all cached content from there. Refresh your screen again to see if the trimmed version appears.
If that doesn’t work, the cache might be more persistent, and you may need to wait until it expires. More advanced methods to clear the cache could potentially clear all your saved data in your browser, which is not recommended.
Refreshing the screen and checking back in a few minutes can help. Hopefully, the new video will appear immediately, as this is the best scenario.
